About Sean Paul
As a child I grew up surrounded by tools, my father was a mechanical /electrical engineer and in his spare time repaired televisions, radios and watches. I was amazed by his tools and got many a ticking off for playing with them and injuring myself.
I remember on one occasion, sticking a screw driver in the live circuit board, in the back of a radio my father was repairing, I soon found out the dangers of electricity as my hands buzzed and trembled from the shock.
Later when I was older and able to use a hammer, screw driver and saw I began to explore the wonders of making something from raw material, usually scrap wood found in the garden. I made go carts, stilts and wood cars to name a few.
As a teenager I neglected my inner desire to create & focused on my studies leaving university with a Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Upon graduating I began to feel the need to create again and remembered a sculptors store Tiranti, which I passed daily when I was at university.
I purchased liquid silicone rubber, pewter ingots and a ladle and began to make moulds and cast pewter jewellery. Melting the Pewter on the kitchen gas cooker and once more got a ticking off , only this time from my Ma.
I later purchased a table top casting machine and melting pot, I hand sculpted bracelets, rings, earrings and cuff links from wax and other modelling media, made moulds and cast the items from pewter.
I got a job as a Structural Composite Aircraft Engineer with British Airways.
I was at British Airways for 20 years and did metal bond, carbon fibre , glass fibre and kevlar repairs to aircraft components and releasing them to active service.
I have worked on Concorde, Airbus and Boeing components, whilst I was there I completed a MSC in Design & Manufacturing Quality Management where I learnt about CAD/CAM.
I took a sabbatical year out from British Airways, purchased a small cnc machine and software and moved out to Mexico. For that year I learnt through trial and error the software and how to get the best out of my cnc machine.
After my sabbatical I returned to the UK to continue my career as an aircraft engineer, whilst developing my skill and craft in the weekends.
I upgraded my workshop annually purchasing production casting machines and finishing machines, as I developed new products (buckles, badges, key rings, promotional products and eye wear).
I have a high quality standard something ingrained within me as a result of working in the civilian aircraft industry, I am continually searching for knowledge on how to improve, evolve and develop my processes further , I look forward to new projects which bring new challenges, I enjoy working with new materials adding value to them and seeing them take shape and form.
